Who should register as a student?
Any student enrolled in either a pharmacy degree program or a pharmacy technician diploma program intending to complete practice experience in PEI. This applies for both structured and unstructured practice experience.
Which student application form applies to me?
The Pharmacy Student Application form is for any student enrolled in a CCAPP accredited pharmacy degree program and should complete the Pharmacy Student Application form along with a $50 application fee.
The Pharmacy Technician Student Application form is only for CCAPP accredited Pharmacy Technician Program students only. Transition pathway applicants must use their username and password to access the member portal and complete the Pharmacy Technician Student Application form along with a $50 application fee. If a candidate in the transition pathway has not completed a Pharmacy Technician Candidate Application (Intent to Register), please submit this application first. The Pharmacy Technician Student Application will then become available through the member portal.
Do I need to renew my registration?
The student registration year runs annually from September 15. Students are required to renew their registration if they are completing either structured or unstructured practice experience in PEI. Student renewals are completed by logging into the member portal on the home page of the PEI College of Pharmacists website and selecting the renew membership button. Upon renewal, students are required to provide the following:
1. Proof of current personal professional liability insurance
2. Proof of enrollment in their program
3. Preceptor/site approval (completed in the member portal)
4. Letter of standing from any regulatory body where the applicant has held registration
5. Renewal fee of $50.00
Note: Once all required documentation and fees have been submitted to the PEI College of Pharmacists office, students will receive a confirmation email confirming their registration renewal. Students must not begin any practice experience prior to receiving the confirmation of registration enrollment.
How will I know my Student Application has been approved?
Once the student application has been approved the applicant will receive a confirmation email.
If you do not receive a confirmation email within a reasonable time frame, typically no more than 7 days after you have completed all of your application requirements, you should contact the PEICP at firstname.lastname@example.org to inquire.
How long does it take to process my application?
If all of the application requirements have been met ie. proof of identity, proof of liability insurance, criminal record check, letters of standing, etc., your application approval should take two to three business days to process.
Can a preceptor have more than one student?
The PEI College of Pharmacists will allow a preceptor to oversee a maximum of two Interns/students at any the same time or overlapping periods of time. A pharmacist may act as a preceptor to a Pharmacy Student, Intern, or Pharmacy Technician Student. However a Pharmacy Technician may only act as a preceptor to a Pharmacy Technician Student.
Can I have more than one preceptor and site?
While the College encourages students to have one site and preceptor to allow students to build a working relationship with the site and preceptor, the College does allow students to work with up to two preceptors. The student must have a preceptor/site approval form completed for each preceptor.
How do I log my student unstructured hours?
Pharmacy Students are required to complete 280 hours of unstructured practice experience as a requirement for licensure. Students must log their unstructured practice experience with the PEI College of Pharmacists. Students will log into their member profile on the PEI College of Pharmacists website and complete a Student Unstructured Time Service Form by entering the number of hours/weeks completed, the site and the preceptor’s name. The preceptor will then receive an email with a link to access the preceptor section of the form. Once the preceptor has complete their section, the College office will receive a notification and approve the hours submitted. The unstructured hours will then appear on the home page of the member profile.
