I n accordance with the Pharmacist and Pharmacy Technician Professions Regulations Pharmacists registered in the Part A register and Pharmacy Technicians are required to obtain 20 continuing education units of accredited learning to renew their registration. Learning activites must be recorded in the online Professional Development log located in the member profile are of the PEI College of Pharmacists website by February 28 each year. M embers are exempt from completing CEUs in the year that they graduate. Pharmacists and pharmacy technicians who transfer from other jurisdictions are required to meet continuing education requirement in the year they transfer.
Accredited learning activities may comprise the following subject areas:
(a) patient care;
(b) professional collaboration;
(c) ethical, legal and professional responsibility;
(d) drug, therapeutic and practice information;
(e) drug distribution; (f) communication and education;
(g) management knowledge and skills;
(h) safety and quality assurance;
(i) health promotion;
(j) administration of drugs and vaccines by pharmacists;
(k) prescribing by pharmacists;
(m) dispensing of methadone and suboxone.
The PEI College of Pharmacists will audit a selection of pharmacists and pharmacy technicians each year for completeness of their professional development log. Selected members will be asked to forward proof of completion fo the continuing education activities documented in their professional development log.
