Extended PRactice Authorization- Drug Administration
Pharmacy students and pharmacy technician students may apply for an Extended Practice Authorization to administer a drug or vaccine as follows:
(a) administering by injection a drug or vaccine prescribed by a prescriber, including a pharmacist.
(b) administering, intranasally or by injection, a vaccine for a disease listed in Schedule A of the Pharmacist and Pharmacy Technician Regulations
(c) administering by injection a vaccine for a disease listed in Schedule B of the Pharmacist and Pharmacy Technician Regulations.
A pharmacy student or pharmacy technician student applying for an Extended Practice Certificate in Drug Administration must follow the application requirements detailed in RP.07 Application Requirements EPC Drug Administration and include evidence that they have completed a CCCEP competency mapped accredited program injection training program and CPR/First Aid certification complaint with RP.11 CPR and First Aid Policy.
Students who hold an Extended Practice Authorization in Drug Administration must be under the direct supervision of their preceptor or delegate who also hold an Extended Practice Authorization in Drug Administration.
An Extended Practice Authorization in Drug Administration is valid for the period of valid registration as a student with the PEI College of Pharmacy and must be renewed when a student registration is renewed.
