Canadian Graduates – Requirements
Provisional registration allows new graduates an opportunity to practice to full scope, under the supervision of a preceptor, while completing the required post-graduate practice experience and awaiting results of PEBC examinations. Provisional registrants were previously referred to as “interns.”
The requirements for Provisional Registration are set out in the Pharmacist and Pharmacy Technician Regulations.
Unless otherwise specified, all documentation must be received by the PEI College of Pharmacy in its original form or as a notarized copy. Original documents may be presented to the PEI College of Pharmacy office to be copied by staff.
Application Requirements
Applicants must provide evidence of identity as part of their application for registration. Applicants must download the Notarized ID Form and have a copy of a passport photo and supporting documents notarized by a notary public. The Notarized Identification From along with 2 notarized copies of supporting ID must be uploaded in the applicant portal at the time the application is submitted.
Graduation from an Accredited Pharmacy Degree Program
Applicants must submit proof of completion of a pharmacy degree program.
Applicants must submit proof of completion of a pharmacy degree program. Proof can be provided by:
1. Requesting official transcripts indicating graduation from your educational institution to be sent directly to the PEICP by mail, or
2. By uploading confirmation from your student portal of your educational institution that you have completed the requirements of your degree program and graduation is pending , or
3. A notarized copy of your degree
Proof can be provided directly from the educational institution, by presenting the original degree to the PEICP office or by submitting a notarized copy by mail.
Professional Liability Insurance
The professional liability insurance policy must be in accordance with section 14 of the Pharmacist and Pharmacy Technician Regulations.
The policy certificate may be uploaded to the applicant’s registrant profile. If the policy certificate is not immediately available, a paid receipt showing the expiry date of the policy and the policy amount is accepted in the interim.
Criminal Record Check
The PEI College of Pharmacy Criminal Record Check Policy requires that applicants submit the results of an Extended Police Information Check (EPIC) that has been completed within 3 months of application. An EPIC is valid for a period of 5 years once on file with the College providing there has not been a break in registration. At the discretion of the College, registrants may be selected to provide an additional EPIC before their expiration date.

CPR and First Aid
CPR and First Aid Requirements are set out in the CPR and First Aid Policy. CPR and First Aid certification is required if the pharmacist will be applying for an extended practice certification in drug administration.
Letters of Standing
Applicants are required to submit a letter of standing from all regulatory bodies where they have held registration. Please contact each regulatory body to request that the PEICP Letter of Standing form be completed and forwarded directly to the College office.
English Language Proficiency
Canadian graduates, who have completed their pharmacy program in English, will have met the language proficiency requirements of the PEICP.
If an applicant has not completed their pharmacy program in English, they must meet current English language proficiency requirements as described in the NAPRA Language Proficiency Requirements for Licensure as a Pharmacist in Canada or the PEI College of Pharmacy English Language Proficiency Requirements for Pharmacists and Pharmacy Technicians. English language proficiency test results are valid for two years from the date of testing.
Preceptor and Site Approval
Canadian graduates are required to complete a period of post-graduate practice experience, under the supervision of a preceptor, in accordance with the Practice Experience Policy. Canadian graduates of a BScPharm program are required to complete 280 hours of post-graduate practice experience and Canadian graduates of an entry-level PharmD program are required to complete 175 hours of post-graduate practice experience.
Provisional registrants are responsible for securing a preceptor and completing the preceptor/site approval form (found in the applicant’s registrant profile.) The chosen preceptor will receive notification from the College and will agree to the practice experience placement. Applicants will be notified by PEICP when their preceptor and site has been approved.
Fees
Applicants will access a fee invoice through the registrant profile. Applications are not considered complete until all required documentation is received and fees are paid. Fees are non-refundable.
When the application has been processed, the applicant will receive e-mail notification of registration as a provisional pharmacist and the Structured Practical Training Program manual. The applicant may not commence practice until the registration confirmation has been received
